Sarah Ruth Bates is a writer, editor, and teacher. Her work has appeared in the Boston Globe Magazine, the New York Times, Guernica, Aeon, and elsewhere. She is working on a manuscript about arbitrariness and morality, in medical decision-making and beyond.
She is a lecturer in Comparative Media Studies and Writing at MIT.
She holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the University of Arizona, a Master of Bioethics from Harvard Medical School, and a BA in philosophy from Middlebury College.
